About Hawkins & Kolb Construction
Hawkins & Kolb Construction has been part of the Sumter community since 1977. Founded by P.T. “Tommy” Hawkins and O. Mack Kolb, the company began with a strong foundation in residential construction and has grown over the years to include a wide range of commercial construction. Today, Hawkins & Kolb serves Sumter, South Carolina, and the surrounding area with experience in educational facilities, county and city government buildings, professional and medical offices, churches, recreational facilities and parks, renovations, additions, and other commercial and residential projects.
Construction has deep roots in the Hawkins family. Before forming Hawkins & Kolb, Tommy Hawkins gained construction experience working with his father, Sumter-area home builder John Hawkins, and later spent 15 years as a commercial superintendent with Boozer & Wharton Construction. Chris Hawkins later joined Hawkins & Kolb and helped guide the company’s continued growth into larger commercial construction. Today, Chris serves as President of Hawkins & Kolb Construction.
As a locally rooted company, Hawkins & Kolb values the relationships it has built throughout the Sumter community. The company places an emphasis on employing local people, purchasing from local businesses, and working with local subcontractors whenever possible. Christopher J. HawkinsPRESIDENT AND PROJECT MANAGER
Chris Hawkins joined Hawkins & Kolb Construction in 1985 and brings more than four decades of construction industry experience. A graduate of Wingate College with a B.S. in Business Administration, Chris is involved in market assessment, lead-time management, cost estimating, and project management. Known for his honesty, dependability, and dedication to his employees and clients, Chris has maintained longstanding relationships with many of the company's employees and subcontractors. His experience includes a wide range of commercial projects, including government, recreational, and faith-based facilities, as well as multiple fire station projects involving new construction, renovations, additions, and pre-finished steel buildings. |
Richard WhiteESTIMATOR AND PROJECT MANAGER
Richard White has been with Hawkins & Kolb Construction since 2003 and brings more than two decades of construction industry experience. A graduate of The Citadel with a B.S. in Business Administration, Richard began his career in an entry-level position and worked his way into upper management through hands-on experience in the field and office. Richard's experience includes field supervision, estimating, project management, subcontractor scheduling, and project oversight. He currently handles much of the company's estimating and is experienced in managing multiple projects while maintaining strong communication with clients and keeping projects organized and efficient. His project experience includes recreational facilities, municipal projects, medical facilities, and other commercial construction throughout the area. |
Douglas BarthLEAD ESTIMATOR AND SITE SUPERVISOR
Douglas “Doug” Barth has worked with Hawkins & Kolb Construction since 2002 and brings more than three decades of construction industry experience. He earned a B.A. in Economics from Clemson University in 1970 and an MBA from the University of South Carolina in 1972. Doug works in the field as a supervisor and is involved in much of Hawkins & Kolb’s wood and metal framing work. He also assists with project estimating and the bid process. His experience as a superintendent includes a variety of commercial projects, including fire stations, recreational facilities, churches, and municipal facilities. |
Shane GreenOFFICE MANAGER AND ESTIMATOR
Shane Green began working with Hawkins & Kolb Construction at the age of 16 and brings extensive experience in both field construction and office management. He earned associate degrees in Arts and Science from the University of South Carolina in 2014. Before becoming Office Manager, Shane worked in the field as a supervisor and lead man, handling foundation work on a variety of projects. His hands-on construction background now complements his responsibilities in office management and estimating, where he also helps coordinate communication with subcontractors and vendors. His project experience includes recreational facilities, fire stations, municipal facilities, and medical projects. |
Leslie AlessandroLEAD ESTIMATOR AND SITE SUPERVISOR
Leslie Alessandro brings decades of experience in the building industry to Hawkins & Kolb Construction. He earned a B.A. in Economics from Clemson University in 1970 and an MBA from the University of South Carolina in 1972. Before joining Hawkins & Kolb, Leslie owned, operated, and managed building supply businesses and most recently managed Grayco Building Supply in Beaufort, South Carolina, until his retirement in 2012. At Hawkins & Kolb, Leslie serves as a lead estimator in the office and project manager in the field, working on both residential and commercial projects. He specializes in millwork, and his project experience includes commercial renovations, recreational facilities, and other projects throughout the Sumter area. |
Jake MeyersFIELD SUPERVISOR / SUPERINTENDENT
Jake Meyers earned a B.S. in Construction Science and Management from Clemson University in 2022 and is a licensed unlimited general contractor. He began his career with Hawkins & Kolb as a field supervisor and has since managed multiple construction projects in supervisory and project management roles. Jake's experience includes recreational facilities, educational facilities, fire stations, and renovation projects. In the field, he focuses on project coordination, communication between clients and contractors, and efficient project management. He also has experience working with construction management software to support project communication, scheduling, and coordination. |
Taylor RayPROJECT OVERSIGHT AND SUPERVISOR
Taylor Ray earned a B.S. in Business Administration from The Citadel in 2020 and began working with Hawkins & Kolb Construction in 2016. Starting in an entry-level position, Taylor worked his way into management and field supervision, where he has managed multiple projects while maintaining strong communication with clients and coordinating work in the field. Taylor is a licensed unlimited general contractor and also holds a mechanical license for grading, water, and sewer lines, as well as a Tier 2 Wastewater System Installer license. He has served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers since 2017. His project experience includes fire stations, recreational facilities, renovations, and civil construction, serving in project management and supervisory roles. |
Sheri DewCUSTOMER SERVICE, AP AND AR
Sheri Dew joined Hawkins & Kolb Construction in 2021 following a 32-year career with the Sumter School District. She graduated from Wilson Hall School in 1982, earned a B.A. in Education from Winthrop College in 1986, and received a Master of Education from Cambridge College in 2005. At Hawkins & Kolb, Sheri works in accounts payable, accounts receivable, job cost, clerical duties, and customer service. Her role supports the company's day-to-day administrative and financial operations while providing service and communication to customers. |
